Let’s make the most of this summer! Join calligrapher Cheryl Dyer— in partnership with Postscript paper & book shop— for a fun and creative 4-day online calligraphy and correspondence summer camp. This camp is all about learning a new skill, having some creative fun and staying in touch with the people we care about through projects you can send through the mail!
Day one: After introductions, you’ll be introduced to a type of calligraphy called Copperplate using colorful pointed brush markers. Assignment: Create a postcard by the next class!
Day two: Show-and-tell (optional!) our postcards. We will work on some fancy capital letters using our marker pens and make monograms than can be used to seal envelopes.
Day three: Optional show and tell again of our monogram sticker creations. We will begin to learn how write Copperplate with steel nibs and pen holders (the real deal!) using colorful watercolor “ink”. Assignment: Make a gift tag or a notecard.
Day four: Optional show and tell of our projects. We will finish up camp by learning how to address envelopes and make some fancy flourishes to boot! Assignment: Address an envelope to someone special and mail them a letter.
Supplies to be mailed to your home (and provided by Postscript): Learning packet, Le Pen Flex markers, pen holder, nib, paint, stickers, stationery items, pencil bag, vintage stamps (that you can use!) and some other special surprises.
You’ll need to have the following on hand: Extra practice paper, rise water for cleaning your nib, paper towels, additional postage, a special work area and possibly an apron. Oh! And a computer— this class will be conducted via Zoom.
